Two wild elephants wandered into a road and blocked traffic at night in Thailand.

Footage shows the pair of jumbos ambling to the middle of the path and stopping like they were resting in Chachoengsao province on July 24.

National park volunteer Somwong Chantachot said the animals were together and followed each other when they were spotted.

He said: ‘They emerged from the forest and walked side by side on the road. We monitored where they went so that they don't stray into nearby villages.'

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.
