Tesla driver takes car for a joyride through flooded streets after deadly typhoon
This is the moment a Tesla driver in Taiwan went on a joyride through a flood following a typhoon.
Typhoon Gaemi hit Taiwan with significant flooding that claimed at least four lives, prompting local authorities to advise residents in affected areas to seek shelter.
Despite these warnings, a Tesla driver in Kaohsiung City proceeded to drive through the inundated streets in his expensive electric car.
Video footage shows the Tesla driving through water, with the water rising over the bonnet and splashing against the windshield on July 26.
The vehicle's occupants appeared to be in high spirits, laughing as the car's windshield wipers struggled against waves rather than raindrops.
According to reports, the floodwaters measured at least 20 inches deep in some areas, with depths reaching up to 28 inches in others.
While the footage showcased the car's movement through the flood, it also raised safety concerns regarding potential hazards. The flooded streets contained hidden dangers, including deep potholes potentially created by the flooding, which could pose a risk to the vehicle and its occupants.
Elon Musk also implied that the Tesla Model S could withstand wet situations in his statement about the car's sealing abilities.
However, the second clip showed water leaking inside the vehicle through the glove compartment.
It was unclear if the driver arrived at their destination or ran into technical issues.
