This is the heartwarming moment fishermen rescued a turtle tangled in stray nets.

Charlie Rerksin and his crew aboard the boat 'Charlie Lightning' were fishing when they spotted a ghost net and discovered a Hawksbill turtle entangled in it in Phang Nga Province, Thailand, on July 29.

Footage shows the anglers carefully cutting through the mesh to free the turtle.

The turtle then swayed its flippers while being carried back to the water. Fortunately, it did not sustain any injuries.

Charlie said: 'Our intention was to help retrieve the net and dispose of it onshore. We were concerned that if the net continued to float, it could pose a danger to marine animals. We were glad to help the unfortunate turtle that was caught.'

The Hawksbill turtle is a protected species under Thailand's Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act, which prohibits hunting, capturing, killing, or trading these animals without proper authorization.

Ghost nets - often cute loose from fishing trawlers - are one of the biggest threats to marine life.
