Canada - July 28-29, 2024

High temperatures forecast to continue across country. From the hot and humid streets of Calgary where various outdoor events were taking place and people tried to stay in the shade of local parks, through to the dry and dangerous conditions throughout the Rockies. Even the sunset over Calgary was magical in vibrancy but this too is impacted by the hot weather trapping wildfire smoke not only in Western Canada but also as far south as Colorado. The main streets in Calgary which are typically a buzz on warm days are much quieter as people opt to be in the cool and air-conditioned comfort of their homes, malls or vehicles.

Meanwhile, in Metro Vancouver and other parts of British Columbia, the high temperatures mixed with rain storms are causing challenges in that they are providing the rains needed to help with firefighting efforts but also bring lightning strikes responsible for starting more wildfires. After long dry periods there is also the issue of oils and other residue being brought to the surface of local roads and highways. In Hope British Columbia this caused a major crash with the result being an tractor-trailer rollover and a lineup of vehicles on the rain-soaked highway for hours. Many travellers in the videos can be seen towing recreational watercraft, RV's Campers etc. as they return to the city after enjoying the hot summer weather.
