The ongoing Israeli attacks have killed over 39,440 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, health authorities in the besieged enclave said Wednesday.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 45 Palestinians and wounded 77 others, bringing the total number of death to 39,445 and total injuries to 91,073 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in October 2023, the Hamas-run health authorities said in a statement.

Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in Iranian capital city of Tehran, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday.

Haniyeh and his bodyguard were killed early Wednesday when their residence was hit in Tehran, according to a statement published on the IRGC's official news outlet Sepah News.

Hamas also confirmed the death of its leader, saying that Haniyeh was assassinated by an Israeli attack in Iran.
