Entire block of flats collapses amid sudden rain burst in India
This is the dramatic moment an entire apartment block collapsed following a cloudburst that caused flash floods in India.
The structure on the edge of a ravine was battered by the torrential downpour in the town of Tosh Nallah in Himachal Pradesh in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Weakened by the severe weather, the foundations weakened and shifted before the building gave way and tumbled down the hillside.
Footage from residents, who had already evacuated the flats, captured the dramatic scene.
Raveesh, Deputy Commissioner of the Kullu district, said there were no injuries. He said that a team had been dispatched to assess the situation.
The official emphasised the importance of avoiding rivers and rivulets, and refraining from constructing temporary structures near waterways to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Recent heavy rainfall in the area has led to roads being flooded. There has been around 60mm of precipitation in total.
An Orange Alert has also been issued by the local meteorological office for severe to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in six state districts on Wednesday and Thursday.
The forecast predicts continued wet weather in the state until August 5, with a Yellow Alert for heavy rain in isolated areas on August 2 and 3.
