An army of hairy caterpillars swarmed houses after heavy rain in Thailand.

Footage shows the skin-crawling bugs covering houses and walls in a neighbourhood in Ang Thong province on July 29.

Residents complained the caterpillars - which caused itchiness upon contact - had disrupted their daily activities by invading their gardens, clotheslines, and kitchens.

A local woman said: 'The caterpillars can be found in the nearby forest eating tree leaves, but many of them moved to the houses in the community area. They have caused a lot of trouble for us.'

Staff at the Ang Thong Municipality sprayed insecticides to get rid of the larvae.

Locals believe the recent rains had created suitable conditions for the insects to grow and reproduce.
