A baby python sparked panic when it slithered through a parliament building after a Cabinet meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.

Journalists and staff were leaving the press room following a press briefing with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin when they spotted the serpent curled up on a bush at the Government House on July 29.

Officials called the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department, and the firemen arrived to remove the three-foot-long reptile, which they placed inside a plastic bag to be released into the wild.

The firefighters said the python may have wandered into the parliament building in search of food - a common behaviour for the snakes during the rainy season.

Snake catchers were scouring the area for its parents, believed to still be lurking nearby.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
