UK: Completed our year-long upgrade to the iconic High Level Bridge in Newcastle

It’s an important travel link between the two cities – so needs regular maintenance to keep the river crossing open.
We’ve invested £5.2m to repaint and strengthen 283 beams, which hold up the road deck.
The bridge is Grade I listed so we needed to hang scaffolding from the bottom without it making any permanent mark on the existing ironwork.
That’s because it’s the world’s first of its kind.
This also meant we could work on the temporary scaffolding platform without affecting your train journeys.
Plus, our teams worked around the clock, but the bulk of the work happened at night to minimise disruption.
