Poy Sang Long is a Shan buddhist festival when boys enter the monkhood, usually for a limited time. The boys dress like princes, emulating the Lord Buddha who was a prince. They are known as jewel princes. After being paraded on the shoulders of male relatives, they discard their trappings of affluence. The festival is held annually in Myanmar's Shan state and parts of northern Thailand. This event was at Wat Ku Tao in Chiang Mai.
