Husband-to-be surprises bride with 30-man Welsh choir ahead of ceremony
This the sweet moment a husband-to-be surprised his bride with a 30-man Welsh choir ahead of their wedding ceremony.
Bethan Lilley-Myers, 31, was in the final stages of getting ready to marry fiancé Emyr Myers, 29, on July 27.
But as she was set to leave, she walked into her kitchen to find over 30 elderly Welsh men, including the groom's grandfather, singing in perfect harmony.
Video shows Bethan bursting into tears as the Côr Dathlu Cwmtawe choir serenades her with a rendition of the hymn Calon Lân, which means "pure heart."
Bethan, a teacher from Llandeberri, Wales, said: "I was in utter shock! "
"I turned to look at the bridesmaids, dad and mum and they too were overwhelmed! "
"At first, I didn't notice Emyr's grandfather until I walked into the kitchen then that just set me off again."
Emyr and Bethan have been together since December 2019 after meeting while teaching at the same school.
Emyr popped the question in December of last year after seeing the choir perform.
Emyr said: "The idea came to me whilst watching my grandfather's choir perform in a Christmas concert with Bethan and seeing her smile whilst they performed. "
"I knew that a surprise on our wedding day would be brilliant and thought that a private performance would never have crossed her mind."
The Welsh hymn, which was written in the 1890s by Daniel James, is often sang at
football and rugby games.
Bethan's makeup artist Jodie Sheehan, 30, who captured the moment, said: "It had everyone in tears."
"It's such a beautiful, traditional Welsh song that gets sung at football or rugby games so it has a lot of meaning to us."
"We had to make sure the bride was upstairs for when the choir arrived."
"We were just in a little cottage so the bridesmaids suggested blasting music on the speakers downstairs when the choir arrived so Bethan wouldn't hear them."
"They were all these naughty old Welsh men who kept giggling like little girls whenever I asked them to keep quiet."
"Luckily it worked like a dream and Bethan came downstairs none the wiser until she opened her kitchen door."
