Israel: Israel detained 9 soldiers for alleged 'considerable abuse' of Palestinian detainee

The Israeli army reported Monday that it detained nine soldiers for questioning over allegations of "considerable abuse" against a detainee at a grim facility where Israel has held Palestinian prisoners during the course of the Gaza war.
The army did not disclose additional details regarding the alleged abuse and said only that its senior legal officer had initiated an inquiry. An investigation by the AP and reports by human rights groups have revealed appalling conditions at the Sde Teiman military facility, the country's largest detention center.
A report by the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, known by its acronym UNRWA, released earlier this year stated that detainees claim they were subjected to mistreatment and abuse while in Israeli custody, without specifying in which facility.
The military has generally denied mistreatment of detainees. Following allegations of abuse, Israel has said that it is currently transferring most Palestinian detainees out of Sde Teiman and is upgrading the facility.
