Caracas, Venezuela - July 29, 2024

At least 11 people died during the protests in Venezuela after the official results of the National Electoral Council (CNE), which proclaimed Nicolas Maduro as re-elected president, were announced.
During a press conference with other human rights activists, Alfredo Romero, executive director of Foro Penal -a non-governmental organisation that leads the defense of political prisoners in Venezuela-, reported that there had been "eleven murders in demonstrations, of which five died in Caracas, two in the state of Zulia, two in Yaracuy, one in Aragua and one in Tachira". He also stressed with concern that two of the dead are minors, "in the state of Zulia a 15-year-old boy died" and "in Yaracuy, a 16-year-old". The rest, he said, were aged between 19 and 40.
