United States - July 01, 2024

In a harrowing early morning encounter at a Chick-fil-A store on Stone Mountain Highway, a delivery driver bravely fought off an armed robber who attempted to break into the establishment. The incident, which unfolded around 4:30 a.m. on July 1, saw the suspect smashing through a drive-thru window with a rock before confronting the employee in the kitchen area.

According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, the suspect brandished a handgun and threatened the victim, demanding access to the store's safe. When the driver was unable to comply, a fierce struggle ensued, captured on surveillance footage, lasting several intense minutes. During the altercation, the victim managed to unmask the assailant.

The suspect eventually fled through a rear exit, escaping before law enforcement arrived on the scene. An intensive investigation led detectives to identify Tommie Lee Williams, 51, as the alleged perpetrator. Williams faces multiple charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Williams was apprehended on July 31 with the assistance of federal marshals and local law enforcement agencies. The community is relieved by the swift action of authorities and the courage shown by the Chick-fil-A employee during this alarming incident.
