At least 11 people were killed in a fire that broke out in the Philippine capital of Manila on Friday morning.

The blaze erupted at a four-storey commercial and residential building in the city's 'Chinatown' district, Binondo.

Firefighters were alerted at around 7:28 am local time, and the fire was extinguished at 10:03 am.

The Bureau of Fire Protection – National Capital Region said at least 11 people were killed.

Officials have not released details on the cause, but the building's security guard told local media the fire broke out in a canteen with a leaky fuel tank.

The building was a residential space also being used as a storage area for vendors in the district.
