On August 31, 2018, Aldi Novel Adilang, a 19-year-old Indonesian fisherman from Sulawesi, was rescued by the Panamanian vessel MV Arpeggio near Guam. Adilang had been adrift for over a month after heavy winds caused the moorings of his floating fish trap, or "rompong," to snap. With only a few days' worth of supplies, he survived by catching fish and cooking them using wood from his hut, and sipped seawater through his clothing to reduce salt intake. He was flown back to Indonesia two days after his rescue and is reported to be in good health.
