Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday called on the international community to apply measures on Israel to prevent the regional situation from further escalation.

Safadi made the appeal when holding a joint press conference with visiting Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Xavier Bettel in the capital city of Amman.

Safadi said that Israel's actions in the region continue to escalate, including the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday, noting that Jordan condemns this "criminal act".

Safadi reiterated that Jordan's position is that everyone needs to work to avoid escalating the situation. He said that Israel's ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip and its illegal actions in the West Bank are the main causes of the escalation. Additionally, Israel's violation of Lebanon's sovereignty also poses a risk for the expansion of the conflict.

Jordan calls on the international community to take a clear stance and implement effective measures to stop Israel's actions, compelling it to respect international law, including international humanitarian law, Safadi said.

Bettel said that Luxembourg appreciates Jordan's efforts in maintaining regional stability, working towards a ceasefire, and reducing regional tensions. He emphasized that the "two-state solution" is the only way to resolve regional conflicts.
