Horrifying drop tower malfunction leaves riders stranded mid-air in China
A park's drop tower ride abruptly stopped mid-air, leaving several visitors stranded in central China.
Video filmed in Zhengzhou City in Henan Province on August 1, shows a drop tower with multiple riders suspended without descending.
One of the trapped visitors reported that the park experienced multiple power outages that day, and she remained suspended for approximately 10 minutes before safely descending once power was restored.
In response, Jinshuiyuan Wonderland staff explained that the ride’s suspension was due to unstable voltage on the park's opening day, leading to the automatic stop. They noted that the number of riders on the drop tower at the time was minimal and assured that no injuries were reported.
To address visitor concerns, the park has refunded tickets to those affected and has taken measures to prevent future incidents by installing additional transformers for stable power supply and conducting a thorough inspection of all equipment to ensure safety.
The Zhengzhou Market Supervision Bureau's Jinshuiyuan Market Supervision Office confirmed that the ride’s equipment was not at fault. The malfunction was attributed to a power overload caused by high temperatures, not a defect in the equipment itself.
Previous inspections of the ride’s certification and safety standards were found to be compliant, and the bureau will increase safety checks on large amusement park rides in the future.
