Lebanon: Moments after attack that killed Hezbollah commander in Beirut
Beirut, Lebanon - July 30, 2024
Israel's military claimed responsibility for a rocket attack Tuesday in Beirut against the Hezbollah commander it accuses of killing 12 minors in an earlier offensive in the Golan Heights.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed to have killed Fuad Shukr, the top military adviser to the organization's secretary general Hassan Nasrallah, in an "intelligence-based target elimination" by fighter jets in the area of the Lebanese capital.
"The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a targeted strike in Beirut against the commander responsible for the murder of the children in Majdal Shams and the killing of numerous Israeli civilians," the military confirmed in a statement.
The death toll from last night's Israeli bombing of a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut rose to four, including two children, and the number of wounded to more than 70 on Wednesday, as search efforts continue, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said.
According to a statement issued by the government department, the attack killed two women, a boy and a girl, while the vast majority of the injured have been released from the various hospitals where they were admitted following the blast.
