Richfield, United States - August 01, 2024

In a daring water rescue operation on August 1 night, members of the Swift Water Rescue team in Wood County demonstrated exceptional courage and skill.

The dramatic rescue unfolded at North Wood County Park campground when a Parks Department employee found himself trapped in a truck engulfed by the swift currents of the Yellow River. The incident occurred around 10 p.m., as the employee attempted to secure entrance gates against the rising waters.

Video footage, shared on the Richfield Rural Fire Department's Facebook page, captured the intense efforts of responders from nine agencies, including Richfield Rural Fire Department and Wood County Sheriff’s Rescue. Swift Water Rescue personnel swiftly deployed specialized equipment, including rope lines and a Rapid Deployment Craft, to reach the submerged vehicle.

Rescuers successfully secured the employee with a personal floatation device and safely evacuated him to shore. Upon reaching land, emergency medical services evaluated the individual, who fortunately did not sustain injuries requiring hospitalization.

The collaborative efforts of local agencies, including Arpin, Hewitt, Pittsville, Remington, Vesper, Marshfield Ambulance, and Nieman’s Towing, underscored the effective coordination crucial in such high-stakes rescues.
