Footage shows shops looted and burned after day of protests and riots in Hull
Following a night of ‘chaos and disorder’, police in Hull have made twenty arrests and have condemned the ‘senseless vandalism, antisocial behaviour and sheer violence that has been brought to our streets.’ In Hull city centre, shops were broken into and looted, before rioters proceeded to set a Shoe Zone store on fire. Riot Aftermath Footage filmed by a local journalist . Chris Havler-Barrett shows the store on Jameson Street looted , wares scattered on the street in front of it .
Chris tells - The O2 phone shop was the first one to be robbed by the crowd I had police permission to go behind the riot shields and capture video of the buildings while police work was still ongoing.
This morning, emergency services and council workers are in the process of cleaning up the debris.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has described the chaos as the ‘actions of a tiny, mindless minority’ and shunned the ‘violent disorder, clearly whipped up online’ during a press conference on Thursday.
He added that, just as these ‘thugs’ are mobile, so too will police forces be.
‘They move from community to community, and we must have a police response that can do the same,’ he said.
