Feline cat found itself in a precarious situation after getting stuck in a 50-feet-tall tree in Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra, for three days.

Locals on Belakang Balok Street reported seeing the gray and black striped feline stranded in the roadside tree since last Friday.

Zulsirwan, a 48-year-old satay seller, said the cat had been climbing up and down the branches. "We don't know who the cat belongs to. It's been three days since Friday and it's been up there, going back and forth on the branches. It can't get down. We don't know how it got up there, we just heard it meowing. Poor thing, it must be hungry," Zul said on today (August 5, 2024).

Instead of trying to climb down, the cat, which was initially perched about 20 feet up the tree, climbed even higher.

With no proper equipment to carry out a rescue, residents and vendors sought help from the authorities.

The Bukittinggi City Fire Department's Animal Rescue Team was dispatched to the scene. Firefighters used a ladder to climb the tree and carefully grabbed the cat before bringing it safely to the ground.

As soon as its paws touched the ground, the cat darted away from the scene.

"The tree is about 50 feet tall, and the cat was stuck about 25 feet up the tree, so we could reach it with a ladder," Dedi Aprianto, Head of the Rescue Section of the Bukittinggi City Fire Department said.

Aprianto speculated that the cat may have climbed the tree to escape another cat or to chase prey.
