STORYLINE:

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Monday that Ankara would submit a request on Wednesday to join the genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

Fidan made the remarks during a televised joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Egypt's capital Cairo.

He stressed that the Middle East region could not bear more tensions, adding that his country has previously warned that supporting Israel, either through weapons or silence, would harm the region.

Fidan noted that the Israeli escalation in Gaza led to the current tension in the region, adding that Israel represents a major threat to the region and urging an end to its "brutality" in Gaza.

Earlier in the day, Fidan met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to discuss recent regional issues and the risk of escalating conflicts.

During the meeting, both sides condemned "Israel's escalation policies" and emphasized the severity of the regional situation. They reaffirmed the necessity of advancing a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, based on a two-state solution, to achieve sustainable justice, security, and stability in the region.
