A Maserati worth over £100,000 was engulfed in flames after crashing into a 400-year-old tree in southern China.

The video was filmed in Yichun City in Jiangxi Province on August 4.

The luxury vehicle collided with a nearly 400-year-old camphor tree located in the middle of the road, resulting in a massive fire that quickly engulfed the car.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Maserati inexplicably lost control and smashed into the ancient tree. The impact was so severe that the upper part of the tree was instantly torn apart, and the car burst into flames immediately after.

The fire spread rapidly, consuming the entire vehicle within minutes. Firefighters arrived promptly after receiving the alarm and worked for about an hour to extinguish the blaze. By the time the fire was put out, the Maserati had been reduced to a charred frame and was completely destroyed.

Fortunately, the driver was rescued by local villagers and taken to hospital for treatment. Medical examinations revealed that the driver was in good condition and had not sustained serious injuries.

The police have launched an investigation into the accident. According to the village Party branch secretary, it is speculated that the driver might have lost control due to fatigue, possibly falling asleep at the wheel. However, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The incident not only resulted in significant financial loss for the car owner but also caused irreparable damage to the ancient tree. The camphor tree, believed to be between 300 and 400 years old, is a protected heritage tree. The Gao'an Forestry Bureau has contacted a third-party company to plan the restoration of the damaged tree. Despite the severe damage to its upper part, experts believe that the lower part of the tree remains in good condition and may recover through proper restoration efforts.
