AI helps Chinese manufacturers better control quality

China's manufacturing sector is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to improve quality control and enhance efficiency.

At a hubcap factory in east China's Zhenjiang City, an AI-powered inspection line is using technology like high precision cameras that can detect 99 percent of a product's defects.

Wang Ning, Head of equipment department, DareWheel Manufacturing Co.,Ltd.:

"We've achieved fully automated quality inspections with a 99 percent defect detection rate for our wheel hubs. This has boosted our production efficiency by over 20 percent and allowed us to reduce the number of line workers we need. Overall, we have seen significant improvements in both quality and efficiency."

Elsewhere in east China's Fuzhou City, a textile company is also using AI to find flaws in its products.

Their system can catch fabric derivations as small as .1 millimeters, and it does so on the fly, during the weaving process, which managers say is three times more efficient than manual inspections.

According to a development plan for new-generation AI, China aims to become the world's AI innovation hub by 2030, with the scale of its AI core industry expected to surpass 140 billion U.S. dollars.
