Elderly man injured as falling rock smashes bus window in China
A passenger bus travelling through a mountainous area was struck by a falling rock, injuring an elderly passenger seated by the window.
The terrifying CCTV footage was filmed in Ya'an City in Sichuan Province on August 5. As the bus approached a bend, a large rock suddenly tumbled down the hillside, crashing into the side of the bus near the window.
Glass and rock fragments from the shattered window flew into the bus, injuring an elderly man.
The quick-thinking driver immediately hit the brakes, stabilised the vehicle, and called emergency services. Under the driver's direction, passengers swiftly and orderly evacuated to a safe area.
Upon receiving the emergency call, local authorities, including police, traffic, and health departments, swiftly activated an emergency response plan and dispatched rescue teams to the scene.
According to reports, the elderly man suffered a minor fracture to his brow bone. He was promptly taken to a hospital where he received stitches and is currently under observation, with no life-threatening injuries reported.
Preliminary analysis suggests that the incident was likely caused by recent continuous rainfall, which loosened the soil and exacerbated rock weathering on the hillside.
