New Administrative Capital, Egypt - August 06, 2024

The foreign ministers of Egypt and Lebanon held a joint press conference in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of initiating immediate actions to halt the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East region.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his visiting Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib on Tuesday discussed the recent developments in the Middle East, saying that Israel's escalation impedes security and stability efforts in the region.

During the press conference, the two top diplomats agreed that recent Israeli action reflects the country's intentions to prolong the conflict.

Bou Habib confirmed that his government is in negotiations with the Iran-backed militant group, Hezbollah, to determine the most effective approach to address Israel's actions.

He emphasized that while Lebanon aims to avoid full-scale conflict, Israel's widening attacks are testing the government's patience.

For his part, Abdelatty stressed that Egypt will continue to urge all parties of the conflict to commit to self-restraint and avoid dragging the region into all-out war.

He reaffirmed Egypt's condemnation and rejection of the political assassination policies and the targeting of other countries' sovereignty, highlighting Egypt's fixed stand for supporting Lebanon through communicating with regional players.
