Viral video captured a truck driver calmly avoiding a car crash by swerving around a vehicle one handed.

Wes Hedrick was driving through North Carolina, USA, in his Dodge Dakota on July 21 when he narrowly escaped catastrophe.

Dramatic footage – that has been viewed more than 12 million times – shows a black SUV pull out in front of Wes at an intersection.

Despite having just milliseconds to react, Wes expertly steered the truck around the vehicle and managed to get it back on to the road in the face of the wet weather.

Wes said: “I was just so relieved to have gotten through the incident without harm. There was a surge of adrenaline and I just shouted for joy inside the truck.

“To be fair it is a difficult intersection. I could not see them very well. I was traveling well under the speed limit when it happened.

“I do have a lifetime of experience riding dirt bikes and messing around with cars. Any chance I get I like to test what a car is capable of.

“I feel it's one of the safest things a driver can do. Rather than being afraid and getting paralysed, I like to test a vehicle's limits.

“When it snows I'm out there playing around in it. Snow driving taught me an important rule, if your tires are skidding you can't steer.

“So when I saw the vehicle pull out I pressed the brakes pretty hard. At the point I thought the truck was about to skid I let up so I could steer and somehow got through the whole incident unscathed.

“Another cool thing about the vid is that literally one minute before I had pulled over and put the vehicle in four-wheel-drive. I did this because all day long and the wet conditions the truck had been spinning.”
