Chinese steel giant makes production smarter with innovation

Ansteel Group, China's leading steel maker is taking steps to turn its plants into smart factories.

Deep underground, unmanned scooptrams are controlled remotely with 5G technology.

The vehicle's operator said the introduction of 5G has completely changed the mining industry.

Zhang Xinyi, driver of pilotless scooptram, Ansteel Mining Yanqianshan Company:

"I don't need to endure the darkness and dampness in the tunnel, nor the loud noisy at work. Also, my safety is no longer threatened by erosive roof and traffic."

The iron ore collected from the mine is then sent to a dressing mill before being smelted in a fully automated process.

With not one single worker along the entire production line, the factory can operate seamlessly even in the dark.
