High-tech drives smart agriculture in China's largest grain producing region
(Voice_over)
Rice growers in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province are using high-tech solutions to secure their place as the country's largest grain producer.
There are few farmers in sight on rice paddies here as most of the work has been taken over by automated devices.
Like intelligent irrigation systems that automatically adjust water levels or diagnostic devices equipped with cameras that closely monitor the rice plants conditions.
Up in the air, remote controlled drones collect data and images for crop health assessments or are used to distribute fertilizers.
Back in the control center, a cloud-based platform analyzes the data and produces site-specific solutions to any bottlenecks in the crop's growth.
These and other digital tools allow farmers to make more accurate decisions, boosting productivity and saving time and money.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that the area of sown summer grain this year rose by more than 4,500 hectares compared to last year to more than 26 million hectares, with the total summer grain output up two and a half percent at almost 150 million tons.
