The body of Pilot Glenn Malcolm, victim of the cruel murder of the OPM group in Papua, has been returned to his country of origin
After being successfully evacuated from Alama District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province on Tuesday (6/8/2024), the body of Pilot Glenn Malcolm Conning was finally returned to his home country of New Zealand via Jakarta on Wednesday (7/8/2024). The body of the victim of this sadistic murder was previously laid to rest at the Mimika Regional General Hospital after the body was exhumed by the medical team. The body of helicopter pilot Glenn Malcolm Conning was previously brutally murdered by the West Papua National Liberation Army on Monday (5/8/2024) while he was carrying out flight duties to accompany 4 medical personnel to the Alama District. Operations Manager for the Aviation Company where Glen Malcolm Conning works, Andriana Mahmud, said that the plan was for the body to be sent to Jakarta via Jayapura and then sent to its home country of New Zealand. The process of sending the body from Jakarta to New Zealand will be handled by the airline company where Glen works and the New Zealand Embassy. "The body was sent from Timika via Jayapura and then sent to Jakarta. Next, the company in Jakarta together with the New Zealand Embassy will take care of the process of sending the body to its country of origin in New Zealand," said Andriana Mahmud in Timika, Wednesday (7/8/ 2024).
Regarding flight activities to serve inland areas in Papua, the company has temporarily stopped them due to the unsafe security situation in that area. "Due to this murder incident, the company has temporarily stopped flight operations to the interior of Papua. The security situation is being considered by the company," he said. Andriana revealed that as long as the company carries out flight operations to serve isolated areas such as the Alama district, it has never experienced an incident like this. The company deeply regrets the murder of their pilot. "So far, there have been no problems with flight operations to the Alama District area. And this is the first time something like this has happened. We really regret this. Because the people in that area really need access to transportation and need food and health supplies," he said. Meanwhile, regarding the helicopter evacuation process which is still in the Alama district, the company is currently still focusing on the process of repatriating the body of pilot Glen to his country of origin. "We are currently still focused on arranging the repatriation of the body to the family in New Zealand. Next, we will decide on the process of evacuating the company's helicopter which is still in the Alama district," said Andriana.
The Indonesian Police confirmed that the Armed Criminal Group or those who often claim to be the West Papua National Liberation Army were the perpetrators of the hostage taking and murder of Pilot Glen Malcolm Conning on Monday (5/8/2024) in the Alama district, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province. "We need to emphasize that the West Papua National Liberation Army or the Armed Criminal group is the perpetrator of the crime, namely the murder of the pilot from New Zealand," emphasized the spokesperson for the Indonesian Police, Police Commissioner Bayu Suseno. Bayu Suseno said that the West Papua National Liberation Army always makes propaganda with a number of statements that mislead and deceive the public to justify their various criminal actions. "The news in the Indonesian media that the West Papua National Liberation Army Group will release a Philips pilot from New Zealand who has been held hostage for approximately one year, is propaganda," he said. "This is because this Armed Criminal group has committed a heinous act by killing pilot Glen who also came from New Zealand," concluded Bayu Suseno. Apart from evacuating the body of Pilot Glen Malcolm Conning, a victim of the killing of the West Papua National Liberation Army, the joint forces of the Indonesian National Army and Indonesian Police also succeeded in evacuating 13 medical personnel and teachers as well as children after the West Papua National Liberation Army killed the New Zealand pilot. The 13 people who were evacuated were immediately taken to the Mimika Regional General Hospital for medical examinations and trauma healing. Currently, Indonesian Security from the Indonesian National Army and the Indonesian Police have been deployed to the Alama District, Mimika Regency to pursue armed criminal groups or those who often claim to be the West Papua National Liberation Army.
