Chinese modernization brings benefits to the world, especially to developing countries, according to the Bahamian ambassador to China in an interview with Xinhua.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): PAULETTE ANNE BETHEL, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas
"It (Chinese modernization) has brought the ability to share its technologies and what it has learned and its development efforts to the world. China has shown itself to be very willing to share and to collaborate with other countries, particularly the Global South in terms of helping them to meet their development goals and move forward with their development efforts.
And with China's advancement in many areas, there won't be the need for many of us to reinvent the wheel. And with China's collaboration and cooperation, we can hence jumpstart a lot of our development projects with that sort of knowledge and help and cooperation."
The ambassador also mentioned that the Bahamas is keen on technological collaboration with China, particularly in the fields of low-carbon development and eco-tourism.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): PAULETTE ANNE BETHEL, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas
"As I come from a small island developing state, we're particularly interested in China's technological development in low-carbon development because to us, that's very important. And these are areas in which we can really collaborate with China in terms of moving forward because climate change is a real threat to us. But in addition to that, we are also tourist-oriented economies. Tourism is something that we find we have in common with many areas of China. China has taken tourism to a very high level, particularly eco-tourism. So there's a lot for us to learn and to really collaborate with China on those technologies and those innovations that it has in those areas."
