STORYLINE:
This summer, the picturesque fishing village of Spakenburg in the Netherlands is celebrating local culture, crafts and historic traditional clothing with the annual Spakenburg Days.
Located in the central Dutch province of Utrecht, Spakenburg has traditionally been a fishing village dating back to the 15th century.
Fish processing and trade have continued to play a significant role in the local economy.
The village is renowned for preserving traditional folk culture, particularly its distinctive attire.
Nowadays, elderly women often wear large, starched cloths draped over their shoulders, usually adorned with colorful floral patterns or solid colors such as black, purple, and deep blue.
Every summer, the Spakenburg Days are celebrated on the last two Wednesdays of July and the first two Wednesdays of August, showcasing the best of local culture, traditions, and crafts.
Visitors and residents alike come together to enjoy traditional Dutch dance and craft markets during the events.
