These images show a Chinese submarine torpedo hitting a vessel and causing a large column of water and a shockwave as it explodes.

The footage reportedly shows a Yu-10 torpedo exploding, with the video released to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Submarine Force.

Chinese media citing a report in the Chinese military publication Ordnance Technology says the video shows a Type 039B submarine firing a Yu-10 torpedo during an exercise, hitting a target ship, most likely a decommissioned Type 074 amphibious landing ship.

As the torpedo explodes, the stern of the target ship is lifted out of the water by the shock wave, accompanied by a water column nearly 100 metres high.
