STORYLINE:

A group of students from Maryland, U.S. has recently visited east China's Anhui Province in a China-U.S. youth exchange program.

The students immersed themselves in Chinese traditional culture by learning about martial arts and dragon dance.

They also explored the world-famous Huangshan Mountain, toured the ancient Hui-style architecture, and enjoyed some distinctive local cuisine.

"This trip is like an amazing opportunity. There have been so many wonderful things that I've seen and I've experienced here. There's so much rich history and so much beautiful architecture that showcase what China has been and what it's growing to become."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): HOSEA CHEW, Director, Administration of Baltimore City Council
"The students have learned so much. They have experienced the culture, the food, the education. It's just a wonderful thing for them to be able to do this at such a young age."

The event is part of the Chinese government's plan to invite 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study within five years.

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): CHELSEA NAKABAYASHI, Assistant professor, Bard High School Early College
"I think they feel really honored. Many of them right now are hoping to continue with their Chinese and be able to someday, I think, help improve U.S.-China relations. They're so encouraged."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): HOSEA CHEW, Director, Administration of Baltimore City Council
"I expect there to be an even greater awareness and even a greater desire for American students to come to China and learn the culture, learn the language."
