Two Burmese workers were killed and five others were injured when an explosion ripped a dockyard in Thailand today.

The blast devastated the facility in Ayutthaya shortly after 2:30pm local time. It was the same site as an explosion in 2016 that killed four and injured several others

Police Captain Chatuporn Sornwit of Bangsai Police Station said the dead man was identified as Kyaw Myat Hu, 41, and another man estimated to be around 30 years old.

Their bodies were taken to Bangsai Hospital and will be transferred to the Central Institute of Forensic Science for autopsy.

Five male workers from Myanmar were also injured in the explosion.

The injured included Aung Thu Tun, 23, Aye Win , 51, and three men aged 17, 20, and 40.  They were taken to Bangsai Hospital and other nearby hospitals for treatment.

Forensic police are now investigating the cause of the explosion.

The dockyard had previously suffered an explosion due to welding accident on July 1, 2016, resulting in four deaths.
