Vehicles were trapped on roadways overnight as flash flooding swept across Northeast Ohio Thursday evening.

So far—at least half a dozen people had to be rescued from rushing flood waters in Summit County as they became trapped in their cars and homes.

Along I-76 at Barber Road—drivers were forced to park and became stuck in the standing water.

Some attempted to drive through the area—while others just stalled out with their hazards on.

An ambulance carefully managed to pass by.

Along the Merriman Valley area, inches of mud caked Merriman Road at Weathervane Lane.

The road closed overnight and remained shut down until 5 a.m.

At least three cars became trapped in the mud and flood waters.

Drivers abandoned their vehicles altogether as a tow company moved in.

City crews brought in street sweepers and front-end loaders to remove the debris.

Several businesses remain closed due to power outages and flooding.
