SOUNDBITE (English): FEDERICO CARABAJAL, Argentine winemaker
"Hello. I'm Federico Carabajal. I'm from Argentina, from Mendoza, one of the wine capitals of the world. I'm the head winemaker here in Stone and Moon Winery in Ningxia, China. I started in the wine industry since I was 15 years old because my father is a winemaker and he was always part of the wine industry.
I came to China because China was my dream, and to work in the wine industry in China, it was also my dream. I knew a lot of things about the wine industry in China, and China is becoming famous around the world. And Ningxia is making amazing wines and it's gonna be one of the famous wine regions in the world. My dreams here are to make the best quality wines in Ningxia and helps the wine tourism in Ningxia.
So now we are in the vineyard, like you can see the vineyard is growing well, healthy, no pests, no diseases, perfect balance between the growth and the yield.
Now, we are in the last step, last stage of the vineyard before to harvest. Now grapes are ripening and I think in one month, we are gonna pick and start the harvest.
We have an amazing terroir here. Chinese people are part of this terroir, also soil and weather, really similar to Mendoza, Argentina, where I'm from.
When I tasted the first wines in Ningxia, they were amazing, really good quality wines. But of course, my job is to make the best wines in China with our international team. We have different ideas with different opinions that should make just altogether one idea, because we have experiences in different countries in America, Argentina, France, Spain and all together we have to make the best wine.
I love Chinese culture, Chinese food, Chinese history. I know Chinese people. I'm really happy here."
