Cohasset, United States - August 09, 2024

In a dramatic video captured recently, Mt. Hamilton Crew Fire Captain Eric Hoffmann of CAL FIRE's Santa Clara Unit is seen courageously cutting down a hazardous cedar tree engulfed in flames along Division U in Cohasset. The tree's core was visibly on fire, posing a significant risk due to its proximity to residential areas and ongoing firefighting operations.

Forestry experts had identified the tree as hazardous due to its fiery condition and its close proximity, just 500 feet from a structure. Captain Hoffmann, recognized as a Level C Tree Faller at CAL FIRE, demonstrated exceptional skill and precision in safely felling the tree amidst challenging conditions.

At CAL FIRE, Level C Tree Fallers like Captain Hoffmann undergo rigorous training and possess advanced technical expertise to assess environmental factors, tree structure, and fire-related hazards. Their role is critical in safeguarding communities by swiftly eliminating fire threats posed by burning trees.
