STORYLINE:

The Youth Development Summit, held Saturday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong, China, provided a platform for communication and for young people to seize development opportunities.

Themed "Set Sail for New Horizons," the inaugural summit featured speeches from government officials responsible for youth policies, as well as business leaders, technological innovators, creative experts, young entrepreneurs, and representatives from youth organizations.

The event attracted over 2,400 young people, including 500 from the Chinese mainland, and others from Singapore, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Participants exchanged views and engaged in mutual learning on issues relevant to youth.

SOUNDBITE (English): JOHN LEE, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
"Our vision is to foster a new generation of youth equipped with a global perspective, aspiring and positive mindset, and affection for our country and city. We strive to provide our youth with a nurturing environment and hope for the future."

Lee noted that with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development and the Belt and Road Initiative, Hong Kong is well-positioned to connect the Chinese mainland with both traditional and emerging markets.

He encouraged young people to capitalize on these opportunities and become more involved in actively contributing to the overall development of the country.

Additionally, the forum featured three specialized sessions with speakers discussing new opportunities and roles for youth in areas such as technology and innovation, creative and cultural industries, and charity and volunteer work.
