STORYLINE:
On Saturday, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit condemned Israel for killing more than 100 displaced Palestinians in a school used as a shelter in Gaza City.
In a statement, Aboul-Gheit said that killing displaced civilians during dawn prayers is a crime that "surpasses the usual low level of vileness and unscrupulousness of the Israeli army." The secretary-general added that the continuation of the war in Gaza gives Israel license to continue killing with impunity.
The Arab League chief called on the international community to exert real pressure on Israel to negotiate seriously for a prisoner swap deal and immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
More than 100 Palestinians were killed and dozens of others injured in an Israeli bombing of a school in Gaza City in the early hours of Saturday, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office said.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that the airstrike it carried out on Saturday morning targeted Hamas military quarters.
According to the Israeli army, many measures were taken before the attack to mitigate harm to civilians.
