The Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group successfully rescued two kidnapped Chinese nationals on Aug. 3. During the operation, Santiago was killed while another police officer was seriously wounded.

The rescued Chinese nationals are now in good condition.

Earlier this week, the Chinese embassy also sent representatives to visit the hospitalized police officer.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Chinese embassy expressed its deep condolences and high respect for Santiago, extended its sincere sympathies to Santiago's family and to the injured police officer, and expressed heartfelt thanks to the Philippine National Police for their successful rescue of the Chinese nationals.
