It was always said that tornadoes don't occur in the Bahamas. On Tuesday 17th September, 2013 this was not the case. A jet powered helicopter was about to lift off of the LPIA tarmac. Me and my colleagues, as pilots we often watch this aircraft take flight. Considering when this aircraft powers up, it produces a huge amount of wind velocity, causing light debree and dust to fly around. apparently a light tornado was already formed and we didn't realize. The twister then made its way through the airport, Gaining strength, tossing and turning aircraft's like feathers which made us run for shelter. A total of 12 aircraft's sustained severe damages. No injuries were reported.
