This is the historic moment Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem set an Olympic record with a javelin throw of 92.97 metres at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Footage captured by a spectator shows the son of a construction worker securing Pakistan's first-ever individual Olympic gold medal, breaking a 40-year drought on August 8.

Nadeem's journey from being so poor he could not afford to buy a javelin to clinching gold has inspired his countrymen. He said trained diligently at Punjab University, far from the advanced training facilities available to other athletes.

His achievement was even praised by his Indian rival Neeraj Chopra's mother, highlighting his remarkable determination.

Nadeem's victory was celebrated widely, including in rival India, due to his inspiring story.
