Passenger ship catches fire in Indonesian waters, 125 people evacuated.

The passenger ship named KM Niki Sejahtera which departed from Surabaya, East Java, to Trisakti Port Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, experienced a fire in Bawean waters, Gresik Regency, Java Sea, East Java, Indonesia on August 1 2024, at around 14.00 local time.

A number of ships were deployed to carry out the rescue. All 125 passengers and crew were successfully rescued and evacuated to Banjarmasin, using the KN Lion Sea-402 ship belonging to the Maritime Security Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bakamla RI).

The Commander of KN Sea Lion-402, Lieutenant Colonel Bakamla, on behalf of M Ritaudin Amd, said that the evacuation process was also filled with panic because there were passengers who got off without using the stairs.

“Someone went down using a hose. "At that time the floor of the ship also felt very hot," he said.
