Vast clean up as Tent city abandoned. Boardmasters 2024. 58,000 fans leave the site. Watergate Bay. Newquay Cornwall UK
Boardmasters Festival 2024 ends and 58,000 fans head home. A huge amount of abandoned camping kit including whole tents, chairs, sleeping bags, and more are left for the volunteer clear-up workers to sift through. Salvageable equipment is donated to homeless charities. Visitors tend to leave equipment as it is less bothersome than to re-pack and carry home. Traditionally the event organizers clear the site within days, restoring the fields to original pristine quality.
The festival had a negative experience on Friday night when a crowd surge resulted in several injuries and at least one broken bone. Concerns about safety with such crowd numbers are being voiced. Local Surfer Luke Skinner made history as the first homegrown Boardmasters champion in the event's history. The event brought an estimated 175,000 extra people to Cornwall this year. Extra police, Transport staff, and security watched over the crowds.
