STORYLINE:

STANDUP (English): HONG LIANG, Xinhua correspondent
"Participants from over 130 countries are taking part in the 2024 World Youth Development Forum, held in Beijing both online and in person. But it's not just about the meetings. Experiencing Chinese culture is also a significant part of their journey. How do they feel about China? What impresses them the most so far? Let's dive in and see how these young people are enjoying and discovering the rich culture of China!"

Impression about China

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): BRIGIDA BERTUOLA, Secretariat of the Youth Workers' Party in Brazil
"I think the most impressive thing for me personally was the public security. So I think everyone here is really at ease and they don't need to worry about their safety, which is pretty cool. Technology here is also really developed, and everything is pretty convenient."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): BILKISSU JALLOH, National Youth Ambassador in Sierra Leone
"China is well secure. I think it's a good thing, because security is a key thing that will keep us safe as people."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): PETER DAVID SIMON, Vice president of the Hungarian National Youth Council
"I think one is the technology that you can do everything through apps, like order a taxi, like pay with it. It just makes life easier to do everything in one thing. And also like the transportation. And I think it's also great and truly affordable."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): KERIM HADZIC, Chief Development Officer, Derubis Caravans, Bosnia and Herzegovina
"The thing that impresses me the most is the diligence and progress Chinese people are devoted to."

SOUNDBITE 5 (English): UYERO ERARAWEWHO, Regional coordinator, Organization of West Africa Youth
"With what I've seen, I see that China is a very fast-developing nation."

SOUNDBITE 6 (English): KSENIJA STANKOVIC, University of Belgrade, Serbia
"In China, people try to make everything so perfect and they succeed in doing that. Then the amazing food, and the beautiful people.

China's cultural preservation

SOUNDBITE 7 (English): KERIM HADZIC, Chief Development Officer, Derubis Caravans, Bosnia and Herzegovina
"China has such a long history. It has for a few thousand years (of history). And still, it managed to protect all of these things that are really old."

SOUNDBITE 8 (English): UYERO ERARAWEWHO, Regional coordinator, Organization of West Africa Youth
"I see that the culture still remains even if there are critical innovations of the great touch of technology, but the culture has remained. So I'm really impressed that something that happened in 1400 is still updated to date in 2024. I'm really, really impressed."

SOUNDBITE 9 (English): PETER DAVID SIMON, Vice president of the Hungarian National Youth Council
"I see here in China that culture is really important. All the traditional clothes that people are wearing, for me, it is like really interesting, and I love it. And it's really interesting to see a lot of like young people being on vacation and visiting historical places."

SOUNDBITE 10 (English): BRIGIDA BERTUOLA, Secretariat of the Youth Workers' Party in Brazil
"I think China has two different sides. We have this contrast with the ancient culture and technology, high technology. And it's pretty impressive because China has this ability to hold both and keep both of it. So it's really impressive."

Cultural exchanges

SOUNDBITE 11 (English): KSENIJA STANKOVIC, University of Belgrade, Serbia
"Actually, for everyone, I think it's important to get all the sides and be able to see what people from the West think, what people from the East think, and then try to make your own judgment about everything."

SOUNDBITE 12 (English): PETER DAVID SIMON, Vice president of the Hungarian National Youth Council
"I think this kind of conferences are really important. So people can visit China for a longer period of time to really get to know the experience. Visa-free entering, for example, it's like a good opportunity, and it would be great to have more opportunities to actually come here for study, visits and all that stuff. "

SOUNDBITE 13 (English): UYERO ERARAWEWHO, Regional coordinator, Organization of West Africa Youth
"In going forward, we need to build on more of this relationship in regard to critical development and skill development from what I've also seen."

SOUNDBITE 14 (English): BILKISSU JALLOH, National Youth Ambassador in Sierra Leone
"Through this program, it's a good thing because it's bringing together different people from a different background, cultural diversity. I think it helps a lot. So it's a good thing what the World Youth Development Forum is doing. It's a good thing what the Chinese government is doing, bringing different people (together)."
