STORYLINE:
Thirteen people were injured on Monday from a multi-vehicle pileup on an expressway in southwestern South Korea, according to Yonhap news agency.
The pileup involving nine sedans and trucks occurred at about 12:10 p.m. local time (0310 GMT) near an interchange of the Honam Expressway in the southwestern city of Jeongeup, North Jeolla province.
Three people were seriously injured and 10 were slightly wounded in the accident.
A fire authorities official was quoted as saying that the number of the injured could increase as rescue efforts were underway, though neither death nor cardiac arrest patient was confirmed.
