An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 was strongly felt Monday afternoon from the Los Angeles area all the way to San Diego on the U.S.-Mexico border, swaying buildings, rattling dishes and setting off car alarms but no major damage or injuries were immediately reported.
A cctv footage sourced from Sarah Saryan shows the magnitude of jolt . Sharah tells she is located in South Los Angeles about 12 miles away from the epicentre . We felt the ground roll for a few seconds before the bigger jolt happened, which is why you hear my husband (Kevin) say earthquake. After the strong jolt, the ground continued to roll for a few seconds after. It lasted for a decent time. I’ve lived in CA for 36 years and have never felt a jolt like that.
Sarah also writes on her X saying - My poor cats. We felt the ground rumble before the big jolt which is why you hear my husband say “earthquake” then the jolt happens, it continued to roll for a few seconds after. Some of my china fell over, other than that, the cats & us are fine.
Monday’s quake was centered near the Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park, about 6.5 miles northeast of Los Angeles' City Hall, and about 7.5 miles below the surface, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake was felt from greater Los Angeles south to San Diego and east to the Palm Springs desert region, according to the USGS community reporting page. A small number of reports were filed from the southern San Joaquin Valley about 100 miles northwest of LA.
