Seven killed in stampede at Indian temple
Seven worshippers were killed and 16 were injured in a stampede at a Hindu temple in India on Monday morning, August 12.
The injured were crushed at the Baba Siddhanth Temple in Jehanabad, Bihar. They were rushed to hospitals in Makhdumpur and Jehanabad for treatment.
Jehanabad District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey reported that the situation is now under control, and they are monitoring everything closely.
The police said they were currently working to identify the victims and manage the aftermath of the stampede. They believe the stampede started following an argument between visitors.
Jehanabad District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey said: 'At least seven people died and nine were injured in a stampede at Baba Siddhnath Temple in Makhdumpur of Jehanabad district. We are monitoring everything and now the situation is under control.
'We are actively working to identify the followers who lost their lives in this tragedy. The administration has allocated compensation to each family of the deceased to facilitate the necessary ceremonies.
According to an eyewitness, the police were not stationed near the scene of the incident, but rather along the route.
He claimed that if the administration had operated effectively, the devotees would not have started fighting.
